Defense and
Litigation

We participate alongside other civil society organizations in defense and litigation actions before state bodies (parliamentary, judicial, and executive) or within protection systems and institutions (national and international), seeking truth and justice, corrective measures, and guarantees of non-repetition, through accountability, advocacy, defense, and diplomacy, in favor of victims, organizations, and the restoration of safe environments in adverse or closed contexts.

Defense

Actions to defend the rights of civil society based on the norms and instruments of international law, within national, multilateral, and universal jurisdiction systems. They include the activation of mandates, mechanisms, and measures of protection bodies and systems at national, regional, and universal levels, based on evidence, comprehensive reparation, and support for victims. This is an activity coordinated with affected organizations, local defense teams, and movements led by civil society in the defense of human rights.

Litigation

Judicial action practices to generate legislative and institutional changes through the litigation of emblematic or public interest cases that result in the adoption of corrective, restorative, or expanded measures to protect civil society actors from structural or systematic violations of their rights, with guarantees of non-repetition. This is a strategic advocacy activity that strengthens the justiciability of rights, creating jurisprudence to guarantee the recognition, respect, protection, and effective realization of civil society’s work.

Assistance

Online legal assistance for civil society organizations and local defense teams that require guidance on the enforceability and justiciability of rights when these are restricted or violated through legislative or judicial means. It is a free-access and confidential online service containing tutorials, guides, and manuals to strengthen the defense and assistance of civil society organizations facing rights violations or abusive acts against their members or partners for engaging in rights-related activities.

CSLfdb - Civil Society Legal Framework Database

An assessment of norms, laws, rulings, and other regulations, both national and international, to identify good and bad practices, study the evolution and emerging challenges to the protection of civil society and civic space, identifying trends and patterns of international law violations to define and prepare advocacy strategies. It is a digital database of regulations that allows for the study of legal security environments and advocacy to repeal, correct, or transform norms or jurisprudence contrary to international law.
